The Digital Society Podcast 129 with Airwave

Digital Society PodcastAirwave

Airwave Website

As an electronic music activist who’s been around for well over 15 years, Belgian resident Laurent Veronnez better known to you as Airwave needs no introduction. He’s been signed to the infamous Bonzai label since 1996 and is an active part of it at present Time.
A perpetual music student, constantly re-inventing himself and getting stronger everyday, are the words that can describe the man. There’s a challenge everywhere for the 34 year old artist, who writes any genre of music, from classical to experimental.

Responsible of a bunch of Progressive House and Trance’s finest tracks during their glory days, the man’s discography is immense and breathtaking. Played by the biggest DJ’s on this planet, I want to believe, Above the Sky, Alone in The Dark, When Things Go Wrong, Ladyblue, and many more under his 35 aliases and bands (Planisphere, Velvet Girl, The Green Martian, Lolo, Body Shock and many more), got him to expose his art to a worldwide community that very quickly invited him to get on the decks. That’s how some of you got to see Airwave play at the biggest venues and events worldwide. Twice in a row at Tomorrowland festival in his home country, also Dance Valley, Luminosity Beach in NL, a bunch of memorable events in Canada, United States, New Zealand and of course UK, where he was a regular at all major clubs back in the golden years. Slinky got him to play on Asian, Canadian Tours with great satisfaction. Godskitchen saw him driving a complete dancefloor nuts several times. Many more venues in the world remind him of memorable sets.

That is part of the history of Electronic music as we know it Today. We could go on naming all the people he’s been collaborating with, including the likes of John 00 Fleming, Armin van Buuren, or those who got the Airwave treatment, such as Tiesto, Gabriel and Dresden, Art of Trance, Judge Jules, and many many more.
A unique musician, sharing his love for good taste and good vibes. For your ears only. Listening to Airwave’s music is an experience you can easily compare to the day you had your first candy: unique. Any other superlative is worthless. Hear the Man play it for you, and… you got only a vague idea of the state of mind you will get into.

The Digital Society Podcast 128 with Sam Mitcham LIVE

Digital Society PodcastSam Mitcham

Sam Mitcham Website

This is a LIVE recording from the last Digital Society event with Goodgreef and Paul van Dyk, 05.10.12 from the Club room with Off The Rails.

Sam Mitcham [also known as trance producer 'phaseFOUR' and tech house dj 'Babushka!'] is a 25 year old rising star in the world of electronic dance music. Originally from Hereford in the West Midlands, the DJ/producer now lives between Manchester and Ibiza. Last year he was featured on lineups at some of the UK’s biggest Tech, Trance and Hard Dance events including The Warehouse Project, Passion,
Off The Rails and Insomniacz at Magna. Not only that, but spending the summer in Ibiza earned him regular sets for brands and clubs such as Space, Ibiza Rocks, Tidy, Atomik, Kiddfectious and Cream Ibiza parties to name a few!

2011 saw Sam make his impressive debut for 2 major dance brands, including ‘Colours’ and thier 10 year running Glaswegian festival ‘Coloursfest’, as well as closing the main room at Air for global dance pioneer Godskitchen, which resulted in him being invited back a further 2 times to play including NYE. To further this, October witnessed him break into the Tranceaddict Top 250 Dj poll at a respectable 163 [New Entry].

Continuing his Trance invasion into 2012, Sam’s success at Godskitchen presented him with the honor of playing the final ever set in the main room at Air for the massive SixFiveTwelve event before the brand moved to its new home; the HMV Institute [Sanctuary] after 12 years of incredible events. For Sam this was an honor like no other, as Godskitchen at Air was where his clubbing romance first started back in 2005 on his 18th Birthday. Shortly after this Sam moved back over to ibiza for the summer to co-run and dj at Driftwood; Ibiza’s only trance boat party, with business partner and good friend Alex Ryan.

If that wasn’t enough, July would then see Sam make his debut at Cream Ibiza and live out every budding dj’s dream by closing the main room of Amnesia after Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery to a totally packed out club. Add this to a weekly residency on his boat party alongside brands such as Subculture, Pure Trance, J00F Editions and Enhanced and 2012 is shaping up to be one hell of an unforgettable summer.

The Digital Society Podcast 127 with Ad Brown

Digital Society PodcastAd Brown

Ad Brown Website

A new dawn in British progressive-house, his precision-built, evocative electronic soundscapes have fast found the ears of many of the scene’s leading lights. Prog maestros like Sasha, Nick Warren & Dave Seaman are ardent supporters, as are forward-thinking trance legionnaires like Ferry Corsten and Gareth Emery. No less a talent behind a pair of turntables, he has become the warm up man-of-choice for some of the biggest names one the scene. In the last 3 months of 2009 alone he has supported Calvin Harris and Paul Oakenfold on their respective UK tours. He’s Ad Brown and in 2010 he’s going to be an impossible-to-miss presence.

Ad Brown – The Early Years: Attending the prestigious Academy of Contemporary Music (the starting point for stars including Sugar Babe Amelle Berrabah and Mercury Music Prize Award Winner Toby Couling), Ad took his degree in Business and Music. Whilst studying he learnt the label ropes whilst moonlighting in the promotions department of heavy-hitting dance label, Serious Records. Upon graduating, Ad had to decide whether to go down the record label or DJ/recording artist route. He opted for the latter…

Signed to Black Hole Recordings and releasing on the progressive tipped off-shoot Fris, he debuted in late 2008 with the double-header release ‘Smoke’ and ‘I Just Do’. Just a few months later recognition came fast to his door with the ‘09 releases ‘Hope’ and ‘Chasing Rainbows’. The latter scored the 5/5 Money Shot review in DJ Mag, with the publication stating that the track “positively bulged with dark synthery, thudding drums and imaginative percussion” and added that it was one with “a murderously good chiming top line”. A month after its release the track was compiled onto the 2009 Trance Energy album and Ad himself was named by the music-critics.com website as “a producer to watch in 2009”. Over the course of the year Brown also drew many plaudits for his much-spun bootleg rewiring of Holden &
Thompson’s prog house classic ‘Nothing’. It was music again championed by a remarkably broad spectrum of DJs. In May of that year he also delivered the ‘Velvet EP’, his debut release under his new pseudonym, Maxi Valvona (for Solarstone’s
Insatiable Records). On the immediate horizon for 2010, he has an intensive release schedule with tracks & remixes forthcoming on imprints including Anjunadeep, Black Hole, Baroque, microCastle and Slinky.

You will rarely see a spinner more at home and at ease in front of a pair of CDJs than Brown. Combining flawless mixing with sophisticated selection and electric audience interaction, both UK and abroad, he has brought clubs under his spell. He’s played nights that have included UK club landmarks like under his spell. He’s played nights that have included UK club landmarks like Serious’ night at the Cross, Dusted, The Honey Club in Brighton, Maximal at Turnmills and has warmed up for both Oakenfold and Calvin Harris on their Dec ’09 tours. Of late he’s also spun at famed progressive night, Twisted Audio alongside Anthony Pappa. Ad is also is the only UK artist to be invited to play the fast emerging Silk Royal Showcase night in Philadelphia.

The Digital Society Podcast 124 with Hiddenagenda

Digital Society PodcastHiddenagenda

Hiddenagenda Website

Hiddenagenda are the Sheffield based trance duo behind some of the most uplifting, euphoric and powerful trance sets you will have heard in recent years.

Danny & Rich met in early 2005 and shortly after Hiddenagenda were born. Although relatively young, they both possessed a wealth of knowledge and talent, which only strengthened as the pair joined forces. The amalgamation of sounds harmonised perfectly and their individual styles benefit hugely from each other. Their combined knowledge of tune selection, their immaculate mixing ability and their extensive experience of the clubbing scene makes them one of the strongest teams about.

They found musical inspiration originally from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Matt Hardwick, Markus Schulz and Jon O’Bir, and over time have used this to create their own cutting edge sound that continues to destroy the dance floors around the country. Their style is driven by big basslines and uplifting melodies with tech-influences, but their versatility allows them to adapt their sound to play anything from progressive warm-ups to their now legendary uplifting, euphoric, driving and melodic peak time sets.

Years of mixing and hard work have really begun to pay off for this dynamic duo. Only in their early twenties they have already featured on lineups alongside some of the finest DJs/Producers on the scene. Having made their name at Gatecrasher’s infamous Howard pre-parties back in 2005/06 and with appearances at one of the North’s fastest up and coming trance nights, OTR (Off The Rails), this pair really exploded onto the scene. Becoming firm favourites with many clubbers they have gained a mass of followers around the North of England.

The Digital Society Podcast 122 with Tritonal

Digital Society PodcastTritonal

Tritonal Website

After only three short years of united production, progressive trance duo Tritonal has gone from unknown newcomers to one of the top names in the international electronic dance music scene. Currently standing at #83 on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs List, Tritonal continues to launch track after track up the Beatport charts and into the sets of some of the most renowned and respected DJs in the world. Their
debut artist album, “Piercing the Quiet” produced six top 20 Beatport singles, including two that held the #1 position on the trance chart for almost three weeks—‘Lifted’ and the ‘Still With Me’ Club Mix.

Such a rapid ascent into the forefront of an ever-changing dance music scene might intimidate even the most seasoned musicians, but the duo who “complete each other’s musical sentences” have captured the hearts and ears of fans and DJs alike. Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed formed this dynamic musical partnership from opposite ends of the United States after meeting online in a sound production forum. Within a year of collaboration, their first smash hit ‘Piercing Quiet’ was voted best track by listeners of Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance radio show and the pair was on the fast track to becoming one of the U.S.’s—and the world’s—most exciting and innovative acts to watch.

In 2011, Tritonal embarked on a nonstop, worldwide tour, performing at the best dance music events in North America, Russia, Asia, the U.K, and Australia. They managed to stand out on the festival circuit, winning over legions of EDM fans at massive gatherings such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Escape From Wonderland, Ultra Music Festival and Nocturnal. Incredibly, they also managed to find time to launch their own record label, Air Up There Recordings, provide a guest mix for Trance Around the World with Above & Beyond, become the resident DJs on Sirius XM’s Electric Area, and syndicate their popular Air Up There radio show throughout five continents.

With a fan base of dedicated Tritonians expanding rapidly around the world and a truly memorable, vivacious stage presence which must be seen to be believed, Tritonal continues to shower music lovers with their uplifting, original material and electrifying remixes of some of the best dance music today.
